    What a Day! (Instructional. Easy.)

A collection of 19 duets for first to second year players. The music can be played by 2 or more of the same instrument or by any combination of instruments. Books are available for mallet percussion and percussion.

The 15 books in the series include books for flutes, oboes, Bb clarinets, bassoons, alto saxophones, tenor saxophones, French horns, Bb trumpets, trombones, violins, violas, and cellos. A Conductor's Score/Piano Book is also available.

Each tune is named for a different hour of the day and at the start of each tune is a word describing the mood for that time of day. This helps motivate students and makes it fun as they try to express these moods when playing the music.

What a Day! is specially designed for school music teachers and private music teachers. Read Reviews. Great for small or large ensembles. What a Day! features:

  • Measure numbers on every measure for efficient rehearsals.
  • Fingerings or slide positions for most instruments.
  • Reminders about flats and sharps.
  • Page of instrument ranges/symbols in Conductor's Score/Piano book.
  • Fun rhythms like bossa nova, cha-cha, bomba, rock, Afro-Cuban.
  • Warm-ups by key to get ready to play the tunes.
  • Workbook page for students to create their own warm-ups.
  • Tunes go from whole notes to 8th notes; 16th notes for percussionists.

The percussion book also includes calypso, nueva onda, and masacote rhythms. The rhythms in most of the tunes are interchangeable so that you can substitute the music of an easier tune for a more challenging tune until the players are ready.

On the top staff are rhythms for triangle, cymbal, tambourine, cowbell, wood block, claves, and maracas (or shakers). On the bottom staff are rhythms for snare drum and bass drum.
